Cyclops monitoring network

Technical data

  • Measurement of 3-dimensional XYZ movements
  • No restriction on quantity of targets
  • Unobtrusive and sturdy instruments and targets
  • Minimal wiring
  • Accuracy of 1mm up to 100 m distance with a good total station

Applications

  • Surface and structural deformation
  • Tunnel convergence
  • Slope stability
  • Rail track monitoring

Cyclops

Sol Data and the IGN have been co-developing and co-operating the CYCLOPS (CYCLic OPtical Surveyor) and CENTAUR since 1993.

CYCLOPS and CENTAUR are known woldwide as reference products for the monitoring of grounds and structures.
Amongst our main references are the following:

  • Amsterdam metro (The Netherlands) : 80 CYCLOPS and 6500 target prisms for the real time monitoring of 1800 buildings.
  • Koubiat Acerdoune dam (Algeria) : Real time monitoring of an unstable slope, activation of security alarms.
  • Taļ Wai (Hong Kong) : Monitoring of railway tracks during excavation works with 7 cyclops.
  • Tournai Cathedral (Belgique) : Monitoring of a gothic cathedral during rehabilitation works by jet grouting
CYCLOPS provides continuous surveying information of extreme accuracy. Data is collected, processed, and displayed in real-time.

This system unites the latest developments in motorized total station technology with GEOSCOPE, Sol Data’s control software, to create an extremely powerful and versatile automated surveying system.

The software not only processes the data, incorporating corrective calculation sequences to compensate for self movement of the instrument or changes of atmospheric conditions (temperature, pressure, humidity), but also archives and presents the data in a concise graphical format. The data are continuously available for rapid interpretation. Additionally, threshold movement levels can be set to allow for the use of alarms to highlight excessive movement.

CYCLOPS is made up of four basic components:
  • one or several total stations;
  • a loggin PC;
  • a radio or a cable network for connection between the station(s) and the loggin PC;
  • GEOSCOPE, Sol Data's software.
